Week 28 {Hello 3rd Trimester}

Today marks the beginning of the end!!!  Seriously, someone tell me where the time has gone?!  I know I still have at least 12 weeks, however 12 weeks seems like nothing compared to finding out on December 7, 2010 that we were going to be parents!  That literally seems like forever ago!  Plenty of parents have told me to cherish every moment of him being tiny because he will grow so quickly.  I am sure this is so true I just hope he doesn't grow as quickly as I feel like this pregnancy has gone by!  I can honestly say (through today anyhow) that if I feel like I have been very fortunate with my health, feeling as good as I have, no major issues, and really just enjoying being pregnant!  I have also been told by plenty of mommas that not all are so blessed to experience a nice and easy pregnancy so I have not taken one moment for granted!  I'm also thankful that I have been able to enjoy all of this with my friend, LeAnna.  I highly suggest (if at all possible) having what I like to call a belly buddy!!  Even though everyone has a close friend that would listen to you talk about anything and everything, I just don't think it is the same.  Being able to talk with her about things I have physically felt or vent to her about silly things that I don't think would otherwise bother me have definitely been a plus!

Anyhoo...let's get on to week 28!  At 28 weeks, Roper can recognize MY voice!  His eyes continue to develop this week and his brain is developing millions of neurons. The hair on his head continues to grow (and if that old wives tale is true...the one about if you have a lot of indigestion then your baby will have a head full of hair...he's going to come into this world looking like Rod Stewart!!).  Muscle tone in his body steadily develops, and even though his lungs are now capable of breathing air, it would be difficult for him if he were born now.  He weighs about two pounds and is about 12 to 15 inches long.  If he were born now, he would have an 85 percent chance of surviving. He still isn't fully formed and would probably not be able to breath by himself. He would need to stay in an incubator to keep his body temperature regulated, and he would have a weak liver and immune system.  We definitely want him staying right where he is for at least another 12 weeks!!

Ok so aside from baby news...this week is only a 2 day work week for me!!  Curt and I are off to the beach with a group of friends and we CAN.NOT.WAIT!  This will be our last vacation without a baby in tow.  We are looking forward to a great time with great company and making lots of great memories!!  I can't wait to share some fun pictures with you when we get back!!
