So let's get right to what's going on with week 27 AKA 13 weeks to go or 91 days to go. However you want to look at it! :) This week, his brain is developing quickly. His eyelids, which have remained closed up until this point, begin to open and now his retinas can begin to form. The retina contains specialized photoreceptor cells that respond to light, called rods and cones. Cones in particular help us perceive color. His skin is still wrinkly but by this week, he basically looks how he will look when you give birth to him, in just a few months! Did you know the average woman needs 15mg of iron a day but while pregnant she needs about twice that or 30 mg a day. Iron is essential for the production of the protein in your red blood cells that carries oxygen to other cells. This protein is called hemoglobin. I had a doctors visit last week and while I passed my glucose test {WHOOP WHOOP} I am slightly anemic! My doctor reassured me this is completely normal and that my iron levels were not far off so she put me on a low dose iron supplement! Roper is weighing in at a strong 2 pounds and about 14.5 inches long! Other physical developments this week include his lungs are already capable of breathing air as their vascular system can now handle oxygen/carbon exchange and their brain stem can now regulate rhythmic breathing as well as their basal body temperature! At this point in a healthy pregnancy - if I were to give birth prematurely, my tiny baby could easily win on the show: “Survivor: The Early Years", buuuut we definitely are NOT rushing him!! I go back to the doctor the week of Memorial Day and then I start going every two weeks from then on!!! I seriously just can not believe how quickly the time is flying by!! Vacation is next week, baby showers are about to start happening, other friends and their baby showers are about to start happening!! What an awesome time I'm having being able to experience pregnancy!
Ok so I just thought about a picture I can share!!! I got to pick up my bedding this past Friday!! My mom asked me, "Well do you like it?" My response was, "I'm obsessed with it!!!" Premier Prints in Sherman, MS did an AH-MAZING job!! I mean, I knew it would be fabulous but seriously, I am super pleased with all of it!! Since we don't have a crib yet {stilllll waiting} to put the bedding in I at least got to put up one piece....the valance!! I hope you love it as much as we do!!
